Notes

Again, Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.” And with that He breathed on them and said, “Receive the Holy Spirit.”

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.

Uncommon Generosity: The Good News Produces Good Deeds!

41 Those who accepted His message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day. 42 They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. 43 Everyone was filled with awe at the many wonders and signs performed by the apostles. 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common. 45 They sold property and possessions to give to anyone who had need. 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.

Uncommon generosity was a defining mark of the early Church.

The character of God is self-giving love.

7 Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. 8 Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.

Generosity is not something God does, it's who God is.

If you want to know how generous God is, look at Jesus.

9 In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent His only Son into the world, so that we might live through Him. 10 In this is love, not that we have loved God but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

A correct view of God leads to a generous life.

TWO INCORRECT IDEAS ABOUT GOD:

  • God can't.
  • God won't.

THREE MARKS OF A GENEROUS HEART

1. I trust my source over my circumstances.

7 “But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in Him. 8 They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”

2. I choose celebration over criticism

13 Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.14 Bless those who persecute you; bless and do not curse. 15 Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn. 16 Live in harmony with one another.

3. I practice gratitude over worry.

But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Since we are receiving a Kingdom that is unshakable, let us be thankful and please God by worshiping Him with holy fear and awe.

THIS WEEK:

"Generosity is not something God does, it's who God is!" We kicked off our new series this weekend, A Generous Gospel, where Lead Pastor Whit George shared about the generous nature of Jesus and the marks of a generous heart.
