The nature of worship

The necessity of worship

The Mirror of Erised

1 I love You, Lord, my strength. 2 The Lord is my rock, my fortress and my deliverer, my God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

We worthship that which is worth less

________ is not worthy, of your worthship

“After winning the championship (last season), I learned that much hadn’t changed. I thought it would fill a certain [void]. It didn’t. That’s when I realized in the offseason that the only thing that matters is this game and how much work you put into it. Everything else off the court, social media, perception, isn’t important.” — Kevin Durant

At seventeen, I started to starve myself

I thought that love was a kind of emptiness

And at least I understood then the hunger I felt

And I didn’t have to call it loneliness

I thought that love was in the drugs

But the more I took,

the more it took away

And I could never get enough

I thought that love was on the stage

You give yourself to strangers

You didn’t have to be afraid

We never found the answer,

but we knew on thing

We all have a hunger

We all have a hunger

— Florence + The Machine | Hunger

“One thing I notice about myself—when I’m worshipping other things (family, job, relationships, finances), I’m not very rooted or grounded. My emotions are all over the place because the things that I’m worshipping are very changeable. They’re not dependable. So there’s nothing to root into. The worship of God keeps us rooted and grounded. David got that! And we can see that in his writings!” — Natasha

“Our heart is restless until it rests in you.” — Augustine

“He who desires fleeting joys is sure to be restless always, and to be disappointed at the last.” — Alexander MacLaren

38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

The necessity of worship

Worship must be expressed

1 I will give thanks to You, Lord, with all my heart;

I will tell of all Your wonderful deeds.

2 I will be glad and rejoice in You;

I will sing the praises of Your name, O Most High.

Who is He, this King of glory?

The Lord Almighty—

He is the King of glory.

My God, my God, why have You forsaken me?

Why are You so far from saving me,

so far from my cries of anguish?

Love Unexpressed is Love Incomplete

This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins.
