Back Good Will Toward Men
Notes

If coming to church—even faithfully—is all you’re doing, you’re not going to realize everything that Christ provided for you!

22 Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. 23 Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror 24 and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. 25 But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.

“Do not merely listen to the Word…”
“Anyone who listens…”
“…What he has heard…”

For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.

Listening to another person, especially one who is anointed to teach the Word of God, is an act of humility!

Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.

Listening with focused attention is the first step toward victory!

As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby.

Babies have milk on their mouths! Hungry people talk what they’ve been listening to!

“…A man who looks at his face in a mirror”
“…looking at himself…”
“…forgets what he looks like…”
“…The man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom…”

These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so.

The Word tells you who you are in Christ!

Anyone who listens to the word but does not do what it says is like someone who looks at his face in a mirror and, after looking at himself, goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like. But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom

He has made us accepted in the beloved.

For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.

13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: 14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith.

And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power.

“You are complete in Him

Most believers do before they listen and before they look!

Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.

Listening tells you what is right.
Looking gives you the power to take action.
Doing produces the end result.

When you honor the Word, the Holy Spirit will inspire you to specific action!

When you are convinced that what you are doing is the right action, you will have the power to endure.

Most people try the Word. Fruitful people do it!

  • Listen.
  • Look.
  • Then, Do!

But whoever looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom, and continues in it—not forgetting what they have heard, but doing it—they will be blessed in what they do.
