What does a “Real Jesus” home culture look like?

Click here to download the Parent Cue App.

Home Culture Core Values Tool

  1. What one thing, if it changed, would make the biggest difference in your family?
  2. What pattern(s) from your family of origin would you like to change or reproduce in your family?
  3. What’s something that you’d like to add into your home culture that might be missing right now?
  4. What’s something that you (or your family) does well without even thinking about it?
  5. What activity or action, if prioritized, would bring life to your home?

Our relationship to technology is broken

We’re trading real relationships for online connections

We’re trading engagement for convenience

We’re trading wonder & mystery for information & knowledge

We’re trading listening for talking

“Facebook does not promote civil discourse and is ripping apart the social fabric of how society works. I feel tremendous guilt.” - Chamath Palihapitiya

A fool takes no pleasure in understanding, but only in expressing his opinion.

Sin breaks everything

18I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. 19 For the creation waits in eager expectation for the children of God to be revealed. 20 For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope 21 that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the freedom and glory of the children of God.

Sin isn’t just the breaking of divine rules, it’s the breaking of every human relationship

We must set boundaries

Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

Life was meant to be managed

Write out a smartphone contract

Don’t start and end your day looking at a screen

Keep screens out of bedrooms

Try to create more than you consume

Sit where you can’t see a screen

Redeem dinners, car rides, and vacations

Spouses have one another’s passwords, and parents have total access to children’s devices

We must exchange immediate gratification for authentic satisfaction

28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.

Real rest is found in Jesus

Real community is found in His church

Benefit from your devices, don’t build your life around them
