Back New You, New Relationships

"My brothers, as believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ, don’t show favoritism."

19 Now Jesus’ mother and brothers came to see Him, but they were not able to get near Him because of the crowd.

20 Someone told Him, “Your mother and brothers are standing outside, wanting to see You."

For even His own brothers did not believe in Him.

He replied, “My mother and brothers are those who hear God’s Word and put it into practice.”

10 The disciples came to Him and asked, “Why do You speak to the people in parables?”

11 He replied, “The knowledge of the secrets of the Kingdom of Heaven has been given to you, but not to them.”

The casual relationship

The consumer relationship

When the exchange fails to meet expectations, the relationship weakens and fails.

The career relationship (aka the professional relationship)

23 Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord not for men, 24 since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It Is the Lord Christ you are serving. 25 Anyone who does wrong will be repaid for his wrong, and there is no favoritism.

You will not find absolute fairness in human employment but you can count on it with Christ!

The highest relationship on earth is the covenant relationship!

On that day the Lord made a covenant with Abram…

1 When Abram was ninety-nine years old, the Lord appeared to him and said,

“I am God Almighty; walk before Me and be blameless. 2 I will confirm My covenant between Me and you and will greatly increase your numbers.”

3 Abram fell face down, and God said to him,

4 “As for Me, this is My covenant with you: You will be the father of many nations. 5 No longer will you be called Abram; your name will be Abraham, for I have made you a father of many nations. 6 I will make you very fruitful; I will make nations of you, and kings will come from you. 7 I will establish My covenant as an everlasting covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you for the generations to come, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you.”

A record of the genealogy of Jesus Christ the son of David, the son of Abraham.

Thus there were fourteen generations in all from Abraham to David, fourteen from David to the exile of Babylon, and fourteen from exile to the Christ.

The idea conveyed by this is that God finishes what He starts!

The casual relationship is fed by commonality.

The consumer relationship is fed by symbiosis or mutual benefit.

The career relationship is fed similarly by mutual benefit.

So what feeds the covenant relationship to make it the strongest kind of relationship on earth?

31 "For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh.”

32 This is a profound mystery—but I am talking about Christ and the church.

33 However, each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself, and the wife must respect her husband.

The covenant relationship applies to marriage.

The covenant relationship applies to the local church.

24 Then said Jesus unto His disciples, “If any many will come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.

25 For whosoever shall save his life shall lose it; and whosoever will lose his life for My sake shall find it.”

Every cross is temporary!

Everything that dies in Christ is followed by glorious resurrection!
