April 13-April 20
For nearly 2,000 years, Christians around the world have set aside the week before Easter to follow our Lord Jesus Christ on his journey to the cross. Beginning on Palm Sunday and ending on Easter Sunday, these eight days afford the Church a unique opportunity to reflect on our lives, repent of our sins, and redirect our gaze to Jesus.
We’ve put together a reading plan for Holy Week as told in Mark’s gospel:
Palm Sunday | The Triumphal Entry | Mark 11:1-11 |
Holy Monday | Cursing & Cleansing | Mark 11:12-29 |
Holy Tuesday | The End is Near | Mark 11:20-13:37 |
Holy Wednesday | Anointing for Burial | Mark 14:1-11 |
Maundy Thursday | The Last Supper | Mark 14:12-42 |
Good Friday | The Crucifixion | Mark 14:43-15:41 |
Holy Saturday | Jesus’ Burial | Mark 15:42-47 |
Easter Sunday | The Resurrection | Mark 16:1-8 |
Holy Week is a time to turn down the volume on what the Bible calls the “world” and the “flesh,” in order to more fully give our focus to God. In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus assumes his disciples will fast from food (Matt. 6:16). Had he lived during the 21st century, we believe Jesus would also have enacted a digital fast. The former turns down the volume on our flesh, the latter on the world.
We encourage everyone to choose one food fast as well as one digital fast for the coming week:
FOOD FAST
Option 1
Selective Fast
• Remove one meal a day for eight days
Option 2
Partial Fast
• Fast all food from sunup to sundown for eight days
Option 3
Complete Fast
• Water/light juices only for eight days
DIGITAL FAST
Option 1
Partial Fast
• Bible before phone in the morning
• Phone goes to bed at sundown
Option 2
Information Fast
• Option 1 + No news and social media apps
Option 3
Full Media Fast
• Option 1 & 2 + abstain from television, podcasts, and radio
Whether you’ve been following Jesus for seventy years or seven days, we invite you to follow in the footsteps of your Rabbi on his journey to the cross.
