Find Your Place to Serve: Why the Church Needs You
If you’ve ever wondered where you fit in the church, you’re not alone.
So many of us want to be a part of something bigger than ourselves—but we aren’t sure where to start. We feel the tug to serve, to contribute, to move from the sidelines into the heart of what God is doing. But how? And where? And what if we get it wrong?
The truth is: you were made to participate in the life of the church. You were created with a unique mix of gifts, experiences, and desires—and those things are not random. They’re part of God’s design to form you and bless others.
Covenant Community: A Commitment That Shapes Us
We live in a culture that praises independence. We’re told to keep our options open, to stay unattached, to avoid anything that might limit our freedom.
But Jesus offers a better way.
In the church, we find real freedom not by avoiding responsibility—but by stepping into it. Covenant community means choosing to belong, even when it’s inconvenient. It means showing up, not just for ourselves, but for others. And it means embracing the kind of commitment that forms us into the image of Christ.
Serving in the church isn’t just about filling a volunteer slot—it’s about becoming more like Jesus. It’s a practice that deepens our faith, roots us in community, and pulls us out of the self-focused patterns of the world.
Start Where You Are
You don’t need to have it all figured out to start. In fact, some of the most meaningful places to serve are discovered through simple, faithful steps of obedience.
Ask yourself a few questions:
-
What do I enjoy doing?
-
What needs do I see around me?
-
What comes naturally to me?
-
Where am I hoping to grow?
-
What kind of impact do I want to have?
Where you serve matters not just because of what you do for others, but because of what God does in you through the process.

Every Part Has a Role
The Apostle Paul calls the church a body—many parts, one mission. Some roles are visible, others are quiet. Some are relational, others are logistical or creative. But all are essential.
Maybe you come alive when you’re welcoming new faces with a smile. Maybe you’re gifted in teaching kids or connecting with students. Maybe you’re the kind of person who prefers being behind the scenes, making things happen without much attention. Or maybe you have a heart for the hurting, the overlooked, the ones who feel far from God.
There’s a place for you.
At Church on the Move, we have teams that serve in all kinds of ways—from hospitality to production, from outreach to youth ministry, from prayer to prison ministry. And the beautiful thing? Every team plays a part in helping people meet the real Jesus.
From Spectators to Participants
We weren’t created to just consume content or attend services. We were created to participate—to bear burdens, to bring light, to build the kingdom of God here and now. And while it might feel intimidating at first, stepping into service is one of the most powerful things you can do to grow in faith.
Don’t wait until you feel perfectly ready. The church doesn’t need perfect people—it needs willing ones.
So take the step. Ask the question. Show up and make yourself available.
We believe God will meet you there—and transform you through it.
