For nearly her entire history, the Church of Jesus Christ has made it a practice to celebrate and anticipate the arrival of Jesus for more than just the one day called Christmas. Traditionally, this is a four-week practice we call Advent.
Advent comes from the Latin word adventus, which simply means “coming” or “arrival”. To celebrate Advent, then, is to celebrate the arrival of our Lord Jesus Christ in that Bethlehem manger—but it’s also more than that. Advent gives us the opportunity to look ahead to our Lord’s next great arrival: the day when he comes back to make all things new (Rev. 19-22).
We believe there’s so much value in experiencing this season as individuals, as a church community, in our homes with family and friends, and in meaningful ways with our kids. Below, you’ll find resources designed to help you do just that.
Advent invites us to pause amid the holiday rush and refocus on the heart of Christmas: the gift of Jesus Himself.

Each weekend leading up to Christmas, we’ll walk through the story of Christ’s arrival—the God who came near to bring light into the darkness. Join us as we reflect on the hope, peace, joy, and love He offers the world.
This Christmas season, connect with friends, family, or your small group weekly—preferably on Sunday evenings—to experience Advent together.
Our Friends & Family Advent Guide includes Scripture readings, reflection questions, and simple candle-lighting moments to help you center your week around Jesus.
Each week of the guide will also contain a short study to work through at some point during the week before your corporate gathering. Many of the Scriptures within the personal study will be explored in the candle-lighting liturgy for the weekly gathering.
This devotion is not meant to replace any personal reading plan that is already in motion. But for those who are looking for a plan in this season, it’s a great place to start!
Advent is for everyone! Our Kids’ Advent Activity Guide complements the Friends & Family Advent Guide, offering age-appropriate devotions, coloring pages, and fun activities to help children discover the wonder of Jesus’ arrival.
Advent is leading us somewhere: to the arrival of Jesus. Plan to celebrate with us in person this Christmas as we light the Christ Candle, marking the culmination of Advent and the fulfillment of God’s promises through Jesus. This will be a meaningful time for the whole family.
