Embracing Aging

Heather used to picture 50-year olds as gray-haired and winding down in life. But as she approaches this milestone, she realizes 50 looks a lot different than she imagined.

Contrary to expectations, she finds herself feeling far from “old.” Instead, she’s approaching her birthday with a sense of excitement, viewing it as an opportunity to embark on a new chapter of life.

For Heather, her fifties are a second chance at her twenties. In fact, she still feels 29-just with more knowledge and experience.

She wants to challenge herself as she goes into this new decade and find out what she’s capable of.

What would you tell your younger self?

One of the most beautiful aspects of aging is the perspective it brings. With each passing year, we gain a deeper understanding of ourselves and the world around us.

We learn to see things from different angles, to appreciate the complexities of life, and to find meaning in both the mundane and the extraordinary.

It’s easy to look back at our younger selves and wish we could pour in some of the wisdom we had to learn the hard way.

For Jamie and Heather, they would tell their younger selves to not be afraid to be bold and try new things. It’s so easy to let other people’s expectations or opinions keep us from stepping into the unknown.

What would your younger self tell you?

It can be all too easy to allow fear and complacency to take root, closing ourselves off to the possibilities that lie ahead as we getting older.

In a world that often values youth and novelty, staying open and brave can feel like a radical act. It requires courage, vulnerability, and a willingness to step outside of our comfort zones. Yet, it is through this openness and bravery that we discover the true richness of every season of life and can truly speak into younger generations.

The Pressures of Social Media

Society bombards us with messages of youth and perfection, leading many to feel inadequate or ashamed as we confront the natural changes that come with getting older. From wrinkles and gray hair to changes in weight and body, the aging process can sometimes feel like a battle against our own bodies.

The fear of aging is deeply ingrained in our society, perpetuated by industries that profit from our insecurities. From anti-aging skincare products to cosmetic procedures, the message is clear: youth equals beauty, and aging is something to be avoided at all costs.

This fear is amplified on social media, where youthfulness is equated with popularity, success, and social status.

What are we modeling for a younger generation? How we navigate each season of life matters, because our kids and those coming after are watching us.

Aging is a privelige, and sometimes we have to remind ourselves of that truth.

Join us as in Life in Motion we navigate the complexities of aging, parenting, and embracing each season of life.
