In the tapestry of life, seasons change, and as parents, Jamie and Heather find themselves navigating through new territories, embracing the twists and turns that come their way.

The past year has been a whirlwind of milestones and transitions, with one child embarking on the journey of marriage and another navigating the halls of college, they’ve entered a new chapter in their parenting journey—one that involves guiding adult children while still parenting their younger kids.

The truth is, we cannot walk this journey alone.

As Christian parents, we sometimes find ourselves longing for divine intervention, yet fail to recognize the importance of actively participating in our children’s lives and fostering a supportive Christian community around them.

We need the wisdom and influence of other adults to speak into our children’s lives. Kids can often take advice from trusted adults that they would never receive from their parents.

It’s in the beauty of the Christian community where our prayers for guidance and support are amplified. We pray not only for the wisdom to teach our children what God desires but also for the presence of other mentors and role models who can reinforce these teachings.

Releasing Control

Releasing control, especially when it comes to adult children, is perhaps one of the greatest challenges we face as parents.

As children transition into adulthood, our roles as parents evolve from being the primary decision-makers to becoming mentors, advisors, and sources of support. It’s a delicate balance of offering guidance while respecting their autonomy and independence.

Sometimes, boundaries have to be set.  This includes respecting their privacy, allowing them to make their own mistakes and learn from them, and offering support. It can be tempting to continue exerting the same level of influence and authority as we did when they were younger, but doing so can hinder their growth.

Instead, we must learn to trust in the values and principles we’ve instilled in them, knowing that they have the foundation to make their own decisions.

Let’s Embark on This Journey Together!

From discussions about fiber intake and body image, to embracing opportunities without hesitation, Jamie and Heather are learning to let go of anxieties and trust in God’s plan for their kids and for them.

In the midst of it all, they remain committed to their spiritual and mental health, reminding us of the importance of grounding ourselves in faith. They remind us to quit striving and start walking through open doors, embracing the opportunities that come our way with courage and faith.

As we navigate through this ever-changing journey of parenthood and faith, let us embrace the changes, trusting in God’s guidance and leaning on the support of our Christian community. Together, let’s step boldly into the unknown, ready to embrace whatever new horizons 2024 may bring!
